WordPress vs. Traditional Web Site Design Tools

Here some design/construction options:

1. Design a standard web site.

Advantages: Great for custom looks and design, flexible for the designer, less limitations. Allows for all kinds of custom code and programs.

Disadvantages: Web designer needs to do site edits, client has to pay for edits and rely on designer for changes.

2. Combination of a standard web site and a blog.

Advantages: Benefits of both a standard site and a WordPress web site. Allows for a custom design and the ability to edit content in the blog as needed. Edit blog from any computer.

Disadvantages: Not as friendly to the search engines as a site that is 100% created with WordPress. Parts that exist in the standard part of the site would still require the site designer to make edits to that area. Client needs to learn WordPress software.

3. Site created in WordPress (blog software):

Advantages: The whole site will be editable by the client. Highly flexible, very search engine friendly. Edit site from any computer.

Disadvantages: More limited design options, easier to break or cause problems with because it is so editable. limitations on special features such as custom applications and programs. Client would have to learn to use WordPress software for editing.

4. Standard web site with Adobe Contribute for site editing.

Advantages: Great for custom looks and design, flexible for the designer, less limitations. Allows for all kinds of custom code and programs. Client can edit the content portions of the site, add pictures, links and add or change text.

Disadvantages: Client needs to learn Adobe Contribute for site editing. About as difficult as Microsoft Word to use. No active blog. Not as search engine friendly. Have to have Contribute installed on your computer to edit.
